International Container Terminal Service, Inc. (ICTSI) has invested K15.6 Million in an effort to strengthen and enhance its overall operational efficiency at PNG leading container terminal.
As part of the South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) ongoing effort in improving and strengthening its yard operations in the container terminal services SPICT delivered three brand new diesel and electric- powered, electrically driven 16 wheel cable reel rubber-tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes to its Lae terminal.
The new machines are part of the ICTSI Group’s ongoing effort to strengthen yard operations and enhance overall operational efficiency at PNGs leading container terminal.
ICTSI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anil Singh stated that technology is a central part of ICTSI’s terminal operations.
“Investment is being placed in training to grow competency and skills because it is people who drive the technology,” said Anil Singh, CEO of ICTSI South Pacific.
This is an investment of over K15.6 million, placing ICTSI ahead of its 2022 schedule and 50 percent above the initial agreed outlay on operational efficiency improvements.
“We are very proud of this order to the South Pacific International Container Terminal in Lae. It is the result of our commitment to innovation and proven performance around the world and it will further strengthen our presence in Papua New Guinea,” Mr Singh stated.
In appreciating the capability of the RTGs in the other ICTSI terminals, ICTSI South Pacific has invested in the three cranes and sends six Papua New Guineans crane operators three of who are female in Manila, Philippines at ICTSI Group Head Quarters.
The RTGs have a lifting capacity of 41 tonnes.
And are expected to be deployed operationally during the month of March.
Once the commissioning is complete, these RTGs will be automation-ready for operations.
