ICTSI South Pacific Trains ICTSI Philippines’ VCT Engineers

ICTSI South Pacific Trains ICTSI Philipines' VCT Engineers:

On 17 August, ICTSI South Pacific recently completed training the engineering team of ICTSI’s Visayas Container Terminal (VCT) on Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHC) through the former’s Center of Excellence program.

This milestone for ICTSI South Pacific marks a significant full-circle moment. Six years ago, when ICTSI began operations in Papua New Guinea, Filipinos were sent to train locals in port operations. Today, we see Filipinos returning to Papua New Guinea, not as trainers, but as trainees, learning from the very Papua New Guineans they once mentored.

George Gware, Chief Operations Officer of ICTSI South Pacific, acknowledged the benefits ICTSI South Pacific received from the comprehensive training program of the ICTSI Global Academy. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to give back by contributing to the development of others through ISPL’s own training initiatives.

The comprehensive three-phase training program equipped the VCT engineering team with a robust understanding of MHC operations, safety protocols, and technical maintenance.

It was held at both terminals in PNG operated by ICTSI—Motukea International Terminal (MIT) in Port Moresby and South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) in Lae.

Visayas Container Terminal (VCT), which began commercial operations earlier this year, is set to receive their own Mobile Harbor Cranes this quarter.

ICTSI South Pacific’s Center of Excellence Training Program was also recently awarded as the 2023 Best ESG Initiative for Social Award at the ICTSI 2nd Sustainability Summit held on 23 July.
